PetroTal Corp., Calgary and Houston, has received approval of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) to fully develop Bretana oil field on Block 95 in Peru. The company enhanced production from the field’s first well to 2,000 b/d of oil late last year following the installation of oil well pump and water treatment and reinjection facilities (OGJ Online, Nov. 16, 2018).
Bretana field started oil production in June 2018 with a capital expenditure budget of $18.5 million. Five wells define the structure and continuity of the reservoir with 100% of the production being oil with only nominal gas.
The company is targeting Bretana field’s full development plateau to reach more than 10,000 b/d of oil from 11 producing wells in 2020.
Separately, PetroTal also signed a contract with state-owned PetroPeru for access to the existing pipeline for transport of crude oil.
PetroTal’s contract with PetroPeru, operator of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), will ensure oil deliveries to the Pacific coast. PetroTal currently sends oil to multiple markets via barges and trucks, however the use of the pipeline mitigates potential production constraints, the company said. The company plans to access the ONP system once it reaches 5,000 b/d of oil by midyear.
