Williams Cos. Inc., Tulsa, has received a certificate of public convenience and necessity from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authorizing the Gateway Expansion project—an expansion of the Transco natural gas pipeline to serve the US Northeast.

The Gateway Expansion project would create 65,000 dekatherms/day of firm transportation capacity to serve PSEG Power LLG and UGI Energy Services LLC in time for the 2020-21 winter heating season, Williams said.

The project includes adding electric horsepower at an existing Transco compressor station in Essex County, NJ, and making modifications to two existing Transco meter stations in Passaic County and Essex County, NJ.

Following the receipt of regulatory approvals, construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2019, with a target in-service date of Nov. 1, 2020.
