Midcoast Energy LLC launched a nonbinding open season for a new pipeline to be incorporated into the existing Midcoast East Texas system to provide natural gas transportation services from the Carthage area to the Houston Ship Channel elsewhere along the Gulf Coast.

The proposed CJ Express will consist of up to 150 miles of 36-in. or larger pipeline, beginning near Carthage in Panola County, Tex., and extending south to Midcoast’s Clarity Pipeline in Hardin County, Tex., to provide deliveries to Trunkline Gas (NTX), Gulf South (Area 10), TRANSCO (Zone 2), TETCO (STX & WLA), Florida Gas (Zone 1), Tennessee Gas (100 Line), Kinder Morgan Texas Pipeline, Atmos Texas Pipeline, and Channel Industries Gas.

Midcoast anticipates CJ Express to be completed in mid-2020.

With more than 4,300 miles of pipeline, 1.3 bcfd of treating capacity, 700 MMcfd of processing capacity, and current throughput of over 1.3 bcfd, Midcoast East Texas is the largest gathering and processing system in the East Texas basin. It has recently seen volume growth with increased production from the East Texas and Louisiana Haynesville shale.

The nonbinding open season runs through Sept. 14.
