Baker Hughes: US rig count jumps 13 units to 1,057

The US drilling rig count jumped 13 to reach 1,057 units working for the week ended Aug. 10, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 90 units from this time a year ago when the count stood at 954.

The US drilling rig count jumped 13 to reach 1,057 units working for the week ended Aug. 10, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 90 units from this time a year ago when the count stood at 954.

Offshore units were up 3 rigs from last week with 20 units working. A total of 1,035 rigs were drilling on land, up 10 units from a week ago. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters remained unchanged at 2 units working.

US oil-directed rigs were up 10 units to 869 and up from the 768 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs also were up, adding 3 units to 186. This time a year ago, 181 units were drilling for gas.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Louisiana saw the largest gain with an increase of 6 units to a total of 59 rigs working.

New Mexico was up 5 units to 107 rigs working. Oklahoma and Alaska, each up 2 units for the week, reached respective counts of 139 and 7. Ohio and California, reaching 23 and 16 respectively, each climbed 1 unit.

Five states were unchanged this week, namely North Dakota, 56; Colorado, 30; Wyoming, 30; West Virginia, 14; and Utah, 6.

Pennsylvania, Arkansas, and Kansas were each down 1 rig reaching respective counts of 39, 0, and 0.

Texas lost 2 rigs to reach 522 units working this week.

Canada’s rig count lost 14 units this week to reach 209 rigs working. That count is down from the 220 units working a year ago. Canada dropped 12 oil-directed rigs to reach 140 for the week ended Aug. 10 and losing 2 gas-directed rigs to reach 69.
