The US drilling rig count reached 1,054 units working for the week ended July 13, up 2 rigs from a week ago, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 102 units from this time a year ago when the count stood at 952.

The US drilling rig count reached 1,054 units working for the week ended July 13, up 2 rigs from a week ago, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 102 units from this time a year ago when the count stood at 952.

Offshore units remained unchanged from last week with 19 rigs working. A total of 1,030 rigs were drilling on land, up 1 unit from last week. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters was up 1 to 5 units working.

US oil-directed rigs remained unchanged this week at 863 and up from the 765 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs were up 2 units to 189. This time a year ago, 187 units were drilling for gas.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas saw the largest gain with an increase of 2 units to a total of 528 rigs working. Louisiana and Colorado gained 1 unit each to reach 58 and 32, respectively.

Nine states were unchanged this week, namely Oklahoma, 141; New Mexico, 99; North Dakota, 57; Pennsylvania, 37; Wyoming, 27; Ohio, 22; West Virginia, 17; Utah, 6; and Arkansas, 1.

California and Alaska each dropped 1 unit to 15 and 6 rigs running, respectively.

Canada’s rig count increased again this week with a 15-unit gain to 197. This week a year ago, 191 rigs were drilling. Oil-directed rigs increased 13 units this week to 139, while those targeting gas gained 2 units to 58.
