The Kuwait Energy Al Jahraa-6, the first of two development wells planned this year on the Abu Sennan license in Egypt’s Western Desert, also will test deeper-pool potential, reports Rockhopper Exploration PLC, a partner in the production-sharing contract.

Average production from Al Jahraa field this year is 4,000 boe/d gross from Late Cretaceous Abu Roash sandstone (OGJ Online, Aug. 15, 2017).

In addition to boosting production for the Abu Roash, the Al Jahraa-6 well will test the underlying Bahariya formation of the same geologic age. The target is updip of good quality, water-wet Bahariya sands encountered in the Al Jahraa-1 well.

The second Al Jahraa development well due this year will be Al Jahraa-11.

It will be followed by an exploration well on Prospect S, a tilted fault block adjacent and analogous to Al Jahraa field with Abu Roash as the target.

Rockhopper said Al Jahraa water injection will begin in July.
