Andora Sawn Lake SAGD pilot begins bitumen production

Andora Energy Corp. has recompleted its pilot steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) well in Sawn Lake, Alta., and expects a stable bitumen production rate and steam oil ratio over the next 2 months.

This is the second phase in an attempt to demonstrate the viability of SAGD in Sawn Lake. In the first phase, Andora and partner Pan Orient Energy Corp., Calgary, drilled a well pair to 650 m with a horizontal length of 780 m. (OGJ Online, Aug. 21, 2013). Construction of facilities for steam generation, water handling, and oil treatment was completed earlier this year, and steam injection began in May.

The well was recompleted in the past 10 days with an electric submersible pump and a fiber optic data gathering string, and steam injection from the SAGD well recommenced.

The Sawn Lake project is operated by Andora, a 71.8%-owned subsidiary of Pan Orient.
