Euronav, partners purchase four tankers touted as world's largest

Euronav SA, the Belgium tanker subsidiary of Cie. Maritime Belge (the CMB group), and its partners have reached an agreement to acquire four double-hull ultralarge crude carriers of 442,500 dwt: Hellespont Alhambra, Hellespont Tara, Hellespont Fairfax, and Hellespont Metropolis.

HOUSTON, Apr. 28 -- Euronav SA, the Belgium tanker subsidiary of Cie. Maritime Belge (the CMB group), and its partners have reached an agreement to acquire four double-hull ultralarge crude carriers of 442,500 dwt: Hellespont Alhambra, Hellespont Tara, Hellespont Fairfax, and Hellespont Metropolis.

The ships, to be delivered in May and June, will be renamed: TI Asia, TI Europe, TI America, and TI Africa. The vessels will trade through the Tankers International pool, which has a fleet pool of 46 very large crude carriers.

The vessels were built at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea during 2002-03.
