Conoco Ltd. has inaugurated a 15,000 metric ton/year dimethyl ether (DME) unit at its 135,000 b/d Humber refinery on the east coast of England.

The unit was opened by Colin Moynihan, parliamentary undersecretary of state in Britain's Department of Energy.

The new unit will produce Dymel A being marketed by Du Pont as a partial replacement for fully halogenated chlorofluorocarbons. The plant is a stand alone unit within the refinery operated by Conoco personnel.

Du Pont chose the Humber site for its new DME plant because of its location to serve markets in Britain and continental Europe.
