HOUSTON, Nov. 29 -- Duke Energy Corp.'s Texas Eastern Transmission LP unit has applied to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to increase the capacity of its existing gas pipeline system in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The Texas Eastern Incremental Marketing Expansion (TIME) project will allow for the transportation of up to an additional 100,000 decatherms/day of gas to New Jersey Natural Gas Co.

Robert Evans, president of Duke Energy Gas Transmission, said, "Demand for natural gas in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast markets is expected to grow steadily over the next few years. With minimal landowner and environmental impact, we will be able to cost-effectively bring new supplies of natural gas to the region by this time next year."

Texas Eastern plans to add compression and loop parts of its line. It will install a 10,000-hp compressor at the Lambertville, NJ, station and existing compressors at the Armagh and Entriken, Pa., stations will be modified to increase output by 8,600 hp each.

It will build 16 miles of 36-in. looping line in Perry, Lebanon, Burks, and Bucks counties in Pennsylvania, as well as other ancillary facilities. The new pipeline primarily will be placed in Texas Eastern's existing right-of-way corridors.

The TIME project is expected to be in service next November. No cost estimate was given.
