Iran claims LNG deal with China

Iranian television reported that Iran LNG Co. signed a $3.2 billion contract with a Chinese-led consortium to produce more than 10 tonnes of LNG.

HOUSTON, Mar. 22 -- Iranian television reported that Iran LNG Co. signed a $3.2 billion contract with a Chinese-led consortium to produce more than 10 tonnes of LNG.

The Chinese company will build a LNG line in Phase 12 development of giant South Pars gas field in southern Iran. No other details were given.

The US is pushing for China and others to abide by United Nations sanctions aimed at pressuring Iran to rein in its nuclear program.

Iran has cited recent international energy deals as vindication against US efforts to reduce trade with that country in the ongoing dispute about Iran's nuclear energy program.
