HOUSTON, Nov. 1 -- ANR Pipeline Co., Houston, said Thursday the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved its construction of the Badger pipeline project in southeastern Wisconsin.
The gas line will serve a planned 1,050-Mw power plant in Kenosha County.
The 22.3-miles, 20-in. lateral from the ANR trunkline will deliver up to 210 MMcfd to the power plant. Most of the $19 million line will parallel ANR's existing Racine lateral or other existing utility corridors, minimizing the need for new rights-of-way.
FERC's order said the line is in the public interest and would have minimal environmental impacts.
James Cleary, president of ANR Pipeline, an El Paso Corp. subsidiary, said, "The new pipeline supports our strategy of attaching additional market to the ANR system and furthers development of natural gas-fired electric generation in Wisconsin."
He noted that one of the five strategic objectives in Wisconsin's 2001 Energy Policy calls for the state to take steps to assure the addition of 6,300 Mw of additional capacity by 2016. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin authorized the construction of the power plant a year ago.
