HOUSTON, Aug. 17 -- Gulf South Pipeline Co. LP, Houston, will hold an open season for the proposed Gulf Pines Pipeline project, which would begin near Mobile Bay, Ala., and extend through Georgia and the Carolinas.
Gulf South, a wholly owned subsidiary of Entergy-Koch LP, will accept both binding and non-binding nominations for the project from interested parties beginning Aug. 20 and ending Sept. 19. The anticipated in-service date is summer 2004.
Although details are yet to be set, Gulf South wants to target pipeline capacity of 1 bcfd through a line 36-in. or greater, said spokesman Marc Palazzo. The length of the line will depend on exact route, but it will be 600-900 miles.
Gulf Pines will interconnect with the existing Gulf South line near Mobile Bay. It will also have access to multiple third-party storage facilities, said Gulf South.
Gulf South Pres. Rolf Gafvert said, "We expect that the demand for natural gas in the southeastern portion of the US will increase significantly during the next decade. We look forward to providing a competitive alternative to the growing power generation, commercial and residential markets in this region in the future."
Gulf South's existing system comprises 8,800 miles of pipeline from south Texas through the Gulf states and into the Florida market.
