Statoil starts laying Snøhvit line

Statoil ASA has begun to lay a pipeline that will carry natural gas from its Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea to the Hammerfest LNG plant on the island of Melkøya in northern Norway.

HOUSTON, Apr. 20 -- Statoil ASA has begun to lay a pipeline that will carry natural gas from its Snøhvit field in the Barents Sea to the Hammerfest LNG plant on the island of Melkøya in northern Norway.

The Solitaire lay barge began laying the 143-km pipeline from the west of Melkøya and will continue toward Snøhvit.

Pipelaying of the main section is to be complete at the end of May.
