Texaco Europe Research Inc. (TERI) has unveiled its computer center in Moscow.

The center is in the building that houses the All Union Research Institute of the Ministry of Geology, known as Nviizarubezhgeologia.

It was installed under terms of an agreement for research cooperation between TERI and Nviizarubezhgeologia, disclosed early last year.

The agreement calls for the computer center to support joint research projects to advance assessment of the oil and gas potential of basins in the Soviet Union and other countries.

The venture has chosen these projects as having the highest priority:

  • Development of direct oil finding techniques using integrated geophysical data, including seismic, gravity, and magnetic.

  • Comparative analysis of petroleum basins in eastern and western Europe.

  • Quantification of oil and gas reserves in the basins of the world and identification of the most prospective areas of the basins using statistical methods.

Equipment and software, exported from the U.S. under a Commerce Department license, consists of geophysical data processing, interpretation, management, and mapping systems. They were designed, bought, installed, and are operated by Texaco personnel.
