Petrophysics of Unconventional Reservoirs - PUR

May 29, 2014

Petrophysics is central to the integration of a wide spectrum of related geoscience and engineering disciplines. However, students should also be familiar with at least two or more of the following topics: horizontal well drilling, mud logging, wireline logging & log analysis, coring & core analysis, petrophysics, geophysics, geochemistry, formation testing, rock mechanics, hydraulic fracturing and petroleum economics.

Geoscientists involved with the evaluation and exploitation of unconventional reservoirs including tight gas sands, shale gas and coal-bed methane.

You will Learn:

Participants will learn how to:

  • Plan petrophysical data gathering from unconventional reservoirs
  • Analyze mud log, core and log data so gathered
  • Assess TOC and other hydrocarbon indicators
  • Gauge gas-in-place and reserves in unconventional reservoirs
  • Detect formation anisotropy and plan well completions
  • Monitor fracture treatments

Course Content:

  • Overview of unconventional reservoirs
  • Geochemistry of unconventional rocks
