LOS ANGELES, Apr. 1 -- Total SA said its TEPA (Block 17/06) Ltd. subsidiary along with Sonangol EP have discovered hydrocarbons in the northeastern area of the deep offshore Block 17/06 off Angola.
Total said the Begonia-1 well is “the second successful exploration well on Block 17/06, after the Gardenia-1 well.”
Drilled in 453 m of water, the well discovered hydrocarbons in reservoir of Miocene age and produced more than 6,000 b/d of 36° gravity oil during a production test.
TEPA serves as operator of the block with a 30% stake. Sonangol is concessionaire. Other block partners include Sonangol Pesquisa e Producao SA 30%, Sonangol Sinopec International (SSI) Seventeen Ltd. 27.5%, ACREP Bloco 17 SA 5%, Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA 5%, and Partex Oil & Gas (Holdings) Corp. 2.5%.
Total, which has been present in Angola since 1953, produced 491,000 boe/d in the country last year.
