HOUSTON, Oct. 19 -- Block 15/06 off Angola has yielded its seventh oil discovery.
During production tests, the Mpungi-1 well flowed light oil from the main reservoir at equipment-limited rates as high as 6,000 b/d, reports Eni SPA, operator of the joint venture that holds the block with concessionaire Sonangol E&P.
The well, drilled to 2,300 m in 1,050 m of water, cut oil pay in Upper and Middle Miocene sands.
The group has drilled eight wells since being awarded the block in 2006. Its minimum work commitment is complete.
Interests are Eni, 35%; SSI Fifteen Ltd., 20%; Sonangol Pesquisa e Producao and Total SA, 15% each; and Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA, Petrobras International Braspetro BV, and Statoil Angola Block 15/06 Award, 5% each.
