HOUSTON, Oct. 27
-- Nevada Geothermal Power Inc., Vancouver, BC, let a contract to Ensign Drilling to drill as many as three injection wells at NGP’s Blue Mountain geothermal project in Humboldt County, Nev.

The wells are to be drilled north and south of the core production area in order to further distribute injection water. The $8.4 million program is funded out of the John Hancock Senior Debt Loan backed by a Department of Energy Loan Guarantee that closed in early September 2010.

When completed the wells are expected to allow energy production to be greatly increased from the current 48 Mw gross. Drilling is to start in early November.

Only 2 sq miles of the 17 sq mile Blue Mountain property are developed. The Faulkner 1 geothermal power plant went in service Oct. 12, 2009.
