HOUSTON, Nov. 5
-- Canadian and South American companies reported an oil and gas discovery southwest of Bogota on the Buganviles block in Colombia’s Upper Magdalena Valley basin.

Pacific Rubiales Energy Corp., Toronto, and Petrodorado South America SA logged hydrocarbons in Visure-1X southwest of Abanico field near the southeastern border of the block. Total depth is 3,380 ft measured depth, 2,205 ft true vertical depth. The well is deviated 9° from vertical.

Pacific Rubiales reported 44 ft of net oil pay with 25.9% average porosity in Cretaceous Lower Guadalupe, 45.5 ft of net oil pay with 16.7% average porosity in Upper Guadalupe, and 24.5 ft of net oil and gas pay with 19.1% average porosity in Tertiary Barzalosa. A Guadalupe completion is planned.

The well is on the prospect’s southwest flank and confirmed an oil-water contact at 1,970 ft TVD subsea in Lower Guadalupe. Seismic interpretation indicates that the crest of the structure at this level, 0.7 km to the northeast, has been mapped at 1,915 ft TVD subsea, which could imply an additional 65 ft of hydrocarbon column for the prospect in Lower Guadalupe.

Pacific Rubiales is operator with 19.875% participation in the prospect, and Petrodorado holds the remaining interest. The next well, Tuqueque-1X, is preparing to spud.
