KARACHI, Aug. 5 -- Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Development Co. Ltd. found additional oil and gas in the fifth well drilled in Raijan oil field, resulting in a 100% increase in oil production from this field discovered in 1993.

Using new 3D seismic interpretation, OGDCL tested the northeastward extension of the Raijan structure. Raijan No. 5 was spudded Dec. 13 at 1,700 m. northeast of Raijan No 1. It was drilled in 6 months to 3,667 m. in the Cambrian-age Khewra formation. Logging identified four potential reservoirs (Khewra, Jutana, Torbra, and Sakesaer). Three other wells have yet to be completed.

Upon completion, the well flowed 1,200 bbl of oil and 1.15 MMCFD of gas on a ½-in choke with a wellhead flowing pressure of 500 PSI. The higher reservoir pressure and good production data revealed this as an undrained lobe with 28° API gravity.

With the additional production from Raijan No. 5, total field production jumped to 2,400 b/d from 1,200 b/d.

A 2006 reserves estimate was 8.1 million bbl in 2006. OGDCL had produced 7.35 million bbl by June 30, indicating more reserves than earlier calculated.
