HOUSTON, Aug. 9 -- Max Petroleum PLC said logs at the ZMA-A15 development well in Zhana Makat field in Kazakhstan Block E north of Tengiz field indicate 12 m of net oil pay in two Jurassic sandstone reservoirs at 780-829 m and 18 m of net oil pay in two Triassic sandstone reservoirs at 1,277-1,331 m. Total depth is 1,525 m.
Jurassic J-IIb was the well’s primary target, and the Triassic was a secondary exploratory target. J-IIb is well developed as expected. Triassic reservoirs are productive in adjacent Makat field, but wells have only produced from the Jurassic and Neocomian intervals in Zhana Makat.
Max Petroleum is running production casing, after which the Sun ZJ-30 drilling rig will move to drill the KAW-1 exploration well on the Karsak West prospect in Block E. The company will complete and test the ZMA-A15 well using a workover rig in the next several weeks and announce production test results.
