HOUSTON, Aug. 31 – Talisman Energy Inc., Calgary, has tested gas at an initial rate of 2.6 MMcfd from Ordovician Middle Utica shale in Quebec’s St. Lawrence Lowlands.
Partner Questerre Energy Corp., Calgary, said the well averaged more than 700 Mcfd on a 1-in. choke on 10 days of tests after frac. It is now shut-in for pressure buildup.
Questerre said the test confirms “effective rock properties and encouraging stable gas rates for an area extending over 100 km from St. David-1 to St. Edouard-1.”
Talisman and Questerre are reviewing potential locations for horizontal wells adjacent to the existing vertical test wells. Questerre expects the first horizontal well to be located at the St. Edouard-1 site with spud scheduled this fall.
