HOUSTON, June 21
– Oil Basins Ltd., Melbourne, will conduct a detailed prospect mapping assessment and geological interpretation in July 2011 on new geophysical and geological data collected over the Kimberley Downs embayment of the Canning basin in Western Australia.

The company’s Backreef-1, drilled to TD 1,155 m in late 2010, is cased and suspended. It tested a new stratigraphic oil play in EP129 about 7 km east of Blina oil field. OBL has 100% net beneficial rights to the block.

Early indications from unintegrated PSTM are encouraging with a number of potentially oil prospective “features of interest” identified in the Backreef area of the embayment.

OBL also engaged experts to run petrophysical correlations with Blina field productive formations and a peer review and prospect reservoir assessment. Due to current consultant workloads, these studies are unlikely to be complete by the end of July, but every effort will be made to complete them as soon as practicable to enable operational decisions to be made during 2011.
