LONDONThe International Oil & Gas Producers Association (OGP) said Friday it had decided to open membership to contractors and suppliers in a nod to the growing trend in partnership between operators and companies further down the upstream oil and gas industry supply chain.

At an extraordinary general meeting in London, the membership of OGP voted "overwhelmingly" to admit contractors and suppliers to the association, creating a new category of associate membership defined as companies "providing oil field services under the direction of a company member." Current company members include operators and lease holders.

OGP Chairman Wolfgang Schollnberger, of BP, said admitting contractors and suppliers "into the fold on a more formal basis" recognized the role contracting companies had had on the association's committees and "their invaluable contribution to the identification and spread of best practices."
