Plant cleaning system
Safe Enviro-Acids are available to help refineries and chemical plants chemically clean exchangers, towers, piping systems, and other equipment fouled with hydrocarbons and/or oxide scale. To use, fill the system with water, add degreaser, circulate, add acid, circulate, flush, and go back into service, the company points out. It becomes a one step cleaning process, eliminating the surface neutralize and passivation steps. Surface passivation is automatic, giving users up to an 18 hr window to go back into service with no flash rust, the company notes. The highly buffered Enviro-Acid has a pH of less than 1, yet is safe for human tissue. Corrosion tests show corrosion rates of less than 10 mils/year on carbon steel, and the company says its product is safe for use with stainless steel and admiralty metals. Disposal is easy: raise the pH to regulated levels and go to sewer (assumes nothing hazardous is picked up during cleaning).Source: Hou-Tex Distributors Inc., 18100 Upper Bay Rd., Suite III, Houston, TX 77058.

Data base tracks well site rental items
Rentrak, a data base program, is designed to track the movement and use of rental items and services at the well site. This utility allows users to inventory rental and other items received at the well site and to track the daily and other charges associated with each one. A communications module allows records of item movements to be transferred between Rentrak data bases at various sites, reducing the need to rekey data and improving system accuracy. Reports provide well site and office users with a clear record of the location, usage, and costs of rental items and services.Source: Infostat Systems Inc., Box 214419, Sacramento, CA 95821.

New type of gastight tubing connection
A new sealing system for gastight oil field tubulars is designated "autocon." It is available for tubing sizes of 31/2 through 7 in. OD.
Autocon consists of an "autocontouring" sealing lip and metal to metal seal.
The self-contouring area next to the torque shoulder compensates for pin end ovality before the contact pressure of the metal to metal seal starts to build up, thus achieving a homogeneous seal and uniform sealing efficiency around the circumference. The makeup and service behavior of autocon in terms of axial compression, bending, and combined stresses at high temperatures suit the new sealing system especially for deviated horizontal wells.

Centering, alignment tool
The Pipe C.A.T. centering and alignment tool helps solve the problems of setting slips when the pipe is off-center in the rotary table and bushings.
Use of the tool can help minimize damage, downtime, and repairs to power slips, particularly flush-mounted designs.
The tool is hydraulically operated and mounts below the rotary table so rig floor space is not affected. The unit features hands-off operation, with no rig floor personnel required to operate the unit.

New process monitoring software
Free Brochure "PC80-Process Monitoring Software" describes new Windows based software that automates all aspects of composition monitoring.
The laboratory and on-line FT-IR and NIR analyzers are designed to help chemical producers meet demands for improved production efficiencies, reductions of off-spec material, and more precise control of processes in general.
PC80 allows continuous, unsupervised monitoring of any process and allows output of results to a screen, printer, PLC, or DCS.
Software setup is simplified through the use of an interview program, which oversees the development, setup, and support of process applications.
This company also makes and sells analyzers for environmental monitoring and quality control laboratories.
