LASMO-SUN SETS MORE DRILLING ON COLOMBIAN DISCOVERY TRACT
Lasmo Oil (Colombia) Ltd. plans further assessment of its Espinal block in Colombia's Upper Magdalena Valley.
That's where Lasmo 66.7% and partner Sun Colombia Oil Co. 33.3% tested 2,500 b/d of 32 gravity oil from two Cretaceous Guadalupe zones in their 1-ST Purificacion wildcat (OGJ, Nov. 5, p. 34).
The well went to 6,427 ft.
Lasmo said another wildcat to test a larger structure on the block will proceed before appraisal and development drilling begins for the Purificacion strike, only 9.3 miles from a crude oil pipeline.
Subject to approval from Empresa Colombiana de Petroleos, Colombia's state oil company, Lasmo probably will begin Purificacion production by early 1993. The company plans to drill additional similar structures on the block in 1992.
Joe Darby, managing director of Lasmo's western division, called the Purificacion discovery one of the most important finds in the Guadalupe formation of the Upper Magdalena basin in almost 20 years.
"The discovery extends a proven, highly production play into new areas of the basin," he said. "The followup potential on Lasmo's block is being aggressively pursued."
Lasmo, which operates eight blocks in Colombia and owns interests in three others, expects to drill on five blocks next year. This will include a well early in the year on the Upia A block, just south of Cusiana field.
The company owns production in Santiago field in the Llanos basin and is moving to develop two satellites to the field.
