GAS FLOWING FROM FIELD OFF ALABAMA
Production from the first field in federal water off Alabama is under way, Mobil Exploration & Producing U.S. Inc. said last week.
Gas started flowing at a rate of 40 MMcfd from a single well on Mobile Block 823, which Mobil operates with a 50% interest. Site is 4 miles south of Dauphin Island.
Two more wells, among six drilled on the block, will be completed to boost field production to more than 150 MMcfd from the Jurassic Norphlet by yearend.
Production moves by pipeline to an onshore gas treatment plant near Coden, Ala. From there, it goes into the Transabama pipeline, along with gas from Mobil's nearby Mary Ann field in Mobile Bay.
Mobil's partners in Block 823 are Texaco Inc. 25%, Conoco Inc. 12.5%, Exxon Co. U.S.A. 7.5%, and Agip Petroleum Co. Inc. 5%.
