TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. has scaled back a proposed expansion.

The Calgary company plans to ask Canada's National Energy Board this month to approve a $390 million pipeline construction program.

The plan is a reduction of a $720 million program proposed earlier this year.

No facilities are being dropped, but some are being postponed. The project calls for 300 km of loops, with about half in Ontario and half in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

TransCanada said customers in Ontario and Quebec reduced requests for added capacity in 1992 because of the recession.

The smaller program will add more than 150 MMcfd to system capacity, with about 50% of the additional volume earmarked for U.S. markets.

TransCanada is currently involved in a $2.4 billion expansion program to meet increased market demand, mainly in the U.S. Northeast.
