Apache Energy Ltd. has given a green light to developing Stag oil field in the Carnarvon basin off Western Autralia with award of a $64 million contract to BOS Australia, a unit of Bouygues Offshore SA, Paris.
The turnkey contract includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of a 5,000 metric ton central production platform with capacity of 50,000 b/d.
The fixed six-leg platform will be equipped with a production module and living quarters for 50 people. Processed oil will be sent from the platform to a storage tanker moored 2 km away via a 2 km subsea flow line. Platform delivery is slated for December 1997.
The field, discovered in mid-1993 in 46 m of water, is located about 30 km northwest of Dampier and about 15 km south of Ampolex Ltd.'s producing Wandoo field. Initial estimate of oil reserves was 30 million bbl, but subsequent appraisal drilling raised that estimate to 44 million bbl.
The field is to come on stream in second quarter of 1998, with estimated first year output expected to average 26,200 b/d.
Interests are operator Apache 33.33%, Santos Ltd. 54.17%, and Globex Far East 12.5%.
