Amoco signs Opon gas supply deal

Amoco Colombia Petroleum Co. has signed a contract with state petroleum company Empresa Colombiana de Petroleos to supply as much as 100 MMcfd of gas from Opon field. The contract marks a major step in Colombia's "gasification" program that calls for expanding the gas grid in the country's interior. Gas deliveries are to begin in first half 1997 (OGJ, July 15, p. 35).

The contract marks a major step in Colombia's "gasification" program that calls for expanding the gas grid in the country's interior.

Gas deliveries are to begin in first half 1997 (OGJ, July 15, p. 35).

Ecopetrol will buy Opon gas and condensate from Amoco and partners for the life of the Opon association contract. In addition, the Opon partners have signed a processing agreement that calls for delivery of gas and associated liquids to Ecopetrol's El Centro gas processing plant. Processed gas will be used as fuel in Ecopetrol's refinery at Barrancabermeja or shipped to markets accessible through the nation's pipeline grid.

Meanwhile, Amoco expects to soon sign a transportation agreement for an 88 km, 16 in. transmission line from Opon to El Centro. Engineering design is complete, and construction is under way.
