MMS plans pilot for electronic filing
The U.S. Minerals Management Service will launch a pilot program in October that will extend filing deadlines for oil and gas operators who file reporting forms electronically.
Operators filing monthly oil and gas operation reports and related support forms electronically will get another 10 days each month to file.
MMS Director Cynthia Quarterman said, "MMS is able to offer the extension because of the time already saved by exchanging information electronically...We're also spared the additional review and possible correction or errors that may have been made during the manual entry process. The extra 10 days will also give the companies that much more time to ensure complete and accurate data are submitted the first time without the need for subsequent adjustments."
Quarterman said the MMS royalty policy committee, an industry advisory board, recommended the pilot program. The forms may be submitted by computer modem, diskettes, electronic mail, or magnetic tape.
