BDM-Oklahoma seeks applications for reservoir management
BDM-Oklahoma Inc., Bartlesville, Okla., operator of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Institute for Petroleum & Energy Research (Niper), is seeking applications for its third reservoir management demonstration project.
Goal of the project is to demonstrate the effectiveness of reservoir management methods involving effective use of people, equipment, technology, and money to improve oil recovery and make current production operations more profitable.
The project is especially directed toward independent operators.
BDM-Oklahoma asked for applications from operators with fewer than 500 employees who operate oil fields representing a significant resource or addressing a major technology need in one of the eight eligible Petroleum Technology Transfer Council regions.
The regions are Central Gulf (Louisiana), Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, western Kentucky, and Michigan), South Midcontinent (Oklahoma and Arkansas), North Midcontinent (Kansas and Missouri), Rockies (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Idaho, and Nevada), Texas, Southwest (New Mexico and Arizona), and West Coast (California, Alaska, Oregon, and Washington).
Specifically encouraged are applications from unit operators, Indian tribes, and several operators in the same field as a team.
Applicants may enlist the aid of universities, service companies, or consultants and must be willing to share equally in project expenses, mainly through labor or operational costs. Applicants will be expected to help transfer the project results through workshops and technical presentations.
BDM-Oklahoma plans to negotiate a cooperative research and development contract with the operator that best fits the project objectives.
Under such a contract, the operator and BDM-Oklahoma will jointly conduct the project, expected to require about 1 year with a budget of about $500,000 to be contributed 50-50 by BDM-Oklahoma and the operator.
BDM-Oklahoma has two previous reservoir management demonstration projects under way.
The first is in East Randolph field of Ohio and involves planning for a waterflood in a relatively new field. The second is in Citronelle field of Alabama and involves increasing recovery from a mature field.
