Two eastern European refiners have let major contracts for refinery upgrades to Fluor Daniel International Ltd., Uxbridge U.K., and a unit of Italy's Snamprogetti SpA.
Slovakia project
State refiner and petrochemicals producers Slovnaft AS of Bratislava, Slovakia, let an engineering, procurement and construction contract to Fluor Daniel and joint venture partner Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Tokyo, to provide a residue hydro-cracking plant.
The unit will use ABB-Lummus Global technology and is scheduled for completion in December 1998. It will be used to convert high sulfur fuel oil to low sulfur fuels and heating oil.
Engineering will be carried out at Fluor Daniel's Haarlem office in the Netherlands. Three 1,200 metric ton reactors will be delivered from Japan to Bratislava via the Danube River.
Polish projects
Poland's Petrochemia Plock SA let contract to Fluor Daniel to revamp a crude distillation unit at its Plock refinery. Completion is scheduled for spring 1997.
Petrochemia is carrying out a multimillion dollar expansion at Plock to prepare for deregulation of Poland's oil and gas industry and begin producing unleaded and low sulfur fuels.
The new unit is intended to improve yields and quality of products, reduce waste heat, and cut emissions. Sixty-six pieces of equipment will be renewed and 40 modified, while process control equipment will be replaced.
Separately, Petrochemia let contract to Snamprogetti Ltd., Basingstoke, U.K., for process design, detailed engineering, procurement, and construction supervision of a new 80,000 b/sd crude distillation complex to be installed at the Plock refinery. Work is to be completed in 28 months.
The units to be installed include an atmospheric crude distillation unit, vacuum distillation unit, debutanizer, and naphtha splitter.
