Processing Big refinery planned in Pakistan
Parco, a joint venture formed by the governments of Pakistan and Abu Dhabi, plans to build a $1 billion refinery at Mahmood Kot, 65 km north of Multan in Central Pakistan.
Parco let contract for an undisclosed sum to Babcock International Group plc, Crawley, U.K., to provide project management and technical services from plant design stage through commissioning.
The plant, to start up in mid-2000, will have 100,000 b/d crude distillation capacity.
Colin Webb, Babcock sales manager, said plans call for the refinery to take crude oil imported from the Middle East and produce middle distillates for local markets and heavy fuel oil for nearby power plants, some existing and some planned.
A crude oil pipeline to Multan from Karachi is to be extended to the Mahmood Kot site.
