The new unit has been brought into operation after a $542 million expansion program begun in April 1994. It raised plant throughput capacity from 610,000 b/d.

Yukong claims it is now the second largest private oil refiner in Asia, behind Japan's Idemitsu Corp. The company plans to export much of the output from the new unit.

Yukong has also completed work on a new tanker berth at Ulsan designed to take tankers up to 325,000 metric tons capacity. It has also started up a fifth middle distillate hydrodesulfurization unit, with 50,000 b/d capacity.
