Lafayette, LA, has announced the opening of a new technology center in Lafayette, and has completed construction of a $2 million upgrade of its Port Fourchon facility.

Lafayette, LA, has announced the opening of a new technology center in Lafayette, and has completed construction of a $2 million upgrade of its Port Fourchon facility.

The new technology center provides state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and offices devoted to drilling and completion fluids research, product development, and field support services. Carl LaCombe, manager of technical development, will oversee the new center.

The Port Fourchon complex includes offices, warehouse, and living quarters. Complete dockside services provide for loading liquid mud, completion fluids, diesel fuel, and drill water, as well as drilling mud, and completion fluids products.

Ambar Lone Star Fluid Services, owned by Patterson-UTI Energy Inc., has land and offshore operations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas.

Patterson-UTI Energy Inc. is a leading provider of onshore contract drilling services in North America, as well as engaging in drilling and completion fluid services, and pressure pumping services.

EDG Inc.

Houston, has announced that Javad Mortazavi has joined the firm as a project manager. Mortazavi has 20 years of experience in civil/structural engineering, including offshore structural analysis, design, and project management.

EDG Inc. is a consulting engineering firm dedicated to design excellence in oil and gas production.

International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC)

Houston, has elected the following officers for 2003: Lawrence R. Dickerson, president and COO of Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc., as chairman; Marion Woolie, senior vice-president of operations for Global Santa Fe Corp., as vice-chairman; and Ed Kautz, managing director of Caza Drilling, as secretary-treasurer. Elected as divisional and regional vice-presidents are John Lindsay, Helmerich & Payne International Drilling Co., vice-president-land division; Jurgan Sager, Transocean, vice-president-offshore division; Ross Murphy, Ocean Energy, vice-president-Europe; John O'Leary, Pride International, regional vice-president-international; Rodney Meisetschlaeger, Transocean, regional vice-president-US Eastern; Ronnie McBride, Patterson-UTI Drilling, regional vice- president-US Central; and Mike Nuss, Caza Drilling, regional vice-president-US Western.

Kvaerner Oilfield Products

Houston, has announced plans to construct a purpose built after sales facility in Macaé, 200 km north of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The new base will provide onshore and offshore technical assistance services, equipment repair and maintenance, TVM contracts management, service frame agreements, and life of field engineering support to Petrobras and new operators entering the Brazilian market. Support also will be available for other Aker Kvaerner companies operating in the market, including that for Maritime Hydraulics, supplier of drilling equipment, which will move into the facility in 2003.

Kvaerner Oilfield Products is a fully integrated company that provides a complete range of surface and subsea services for the oil and gas industry.

Houston, is a newly created consulting engineering company formed by president Ronnie L. Smith, and vice-president Don Ybarra. Smith is a professional engineer with over 22 years of experience in fixed and floating platform systems. Ybarra, who will have responsibility for business development and pre-project planning, has over 25 years of domestic and international business experience.
