The new platform is part of the $6 billion Cantarell megaproject, in which Pemex is trying to revitalize the aging complex and boost oil production (see related story, p. 22).
The installation of the Akal TJ was handled by a partnership of Enron Offshore Services & Technology and Cigsa. Enron Offshore, a unit of Enron Corp. subsidiary Enron Engineering & Construction Co., completed jacket load-out for Akal TJ in February and followed with the deck in April.
The partnership holds six construction contracts with Pemex, mostly for other Cantarell facilities, valued at a combined total of $344 million.
