Acquisition of the country's first 3D seismic survey is complete. Petroleo y Gas Ramrod SA authorized the 212 sq km survey in jungle of Peten state.

Supplies were flown 300 km from Guatemala City to a base in Flores, about 110 km east of the prospect area, said contractor Veritas DGC Land Ltd., Houston. Recording took 23 days.

The survey's size and timeline for completion required that 124 km of cables and geophones be on the ground at any given time.

More than 350 locals joined the seismic crew and received basic skills training. Veritas funded infrastructure improvements, medical aid, and economic assistance to the surrounding communities. It drilled water wells and installed plumbing to provide drinking water, provided a medical unit which treated almost every person in the area, and invested more than $250,000 in the community.

Red Sea Oil Corp., Vancouver, and Lundin Oil AB, Stockholm, are preparing to submit a development plan early next year for En Naga North field in the southwestern Sirte basin and are pressing seismic surveys on Block NC 177.

Three appraisal wells, including one re-entry, were successful. The latest, B3, flowed 2,800 b/d of 48° gravity oil on a 98/64 in. choke from Zelten A and 500 b/d of 44° gravity oil from Lower Gir using nitrogen lift.

The re-entry, J1-85, on a nearby, separate structure, flowed 2,200 b/d of oil per day from Lower Gir and confirmed the presence of oil in that structure, now known as En Naga West. The companies acquired 135 line km of infill seismic over both structures.

More than 1,000 line km of 2D regional seismic acquired of a planned 1,600 line km shows several significant structures just south of the En Naga discoveries.

Exploratory drilling is to start in second quarter 1999.

Arizona

The Bureau of Land Management's Socorro, N.M., field office hopes to complete by mid-2000 an environmental impact statement regarding Ridgeway Petroleum Corp.'s proposed carbon dioxide/helium project in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico.

Colorado

J.M. Huber Corp., Houston, staked three coalbed methane exploratory tests in the Raton basin.

The locations, in 33 and 34-29s-67w, Huerfano County, carry projected TDs of 3,500 ft to Cretaceous Raton and Vermejo coals.

This area is 17 miles north-northwest of coalbed methane production in Saddlebag, Raton, and Spanish Peaks fields in Las Animas County, Petroleum Information/Dwights LLC reported.

North Dakota

Burlinton Resources Oil & Gas Co. completed a triple lateral oil and gas well in Customs field, Burke County, near the Canadian border.

The 11-13H Sorum, with surface location in 13-163n-90w, averaged 72 b/d of oil, 323 Mcfd of gas, and 60 b/d of water in September 1998 from Midale/Nesson at about 5,500 ft true vertical depth.

The open hole laterals are at 5,705-11,139 ft, 5,837-9,785 ft, and 5,774-9,767 ft measured depth.

Production during May-September 1998, the well's first 5 months on line, totaled 17,700 bbl of oil, 64.8 MMcf of gas, and 13,866 bbl of water, PI reported.

Texas

Gulf Coast

Ballard Exploration Co., Houston, completed an exploratory test in Chambers County.

The 1 Casey Heirs, 1/4 mile southwest of a Frio oil well in Alligator Bayou field, flowed 2.244 MMcfd of gas with 3,670 psi FTP on an 11/64 in. choke with 101 b/d of 49.7° gravity condensate and 17 b/d of water from Frio at 8,687-97 ft, PI reported. CAOF is 8.982 MMcfd.

East

Anderson Production, Houston, staked a remote wildcat in Hunt County.

The 1 Barnett, 14 miles south-southwest of Greenville, is projected to 3,400 ft, apparently to Cretaceous Woodbine, PI reported. It is 5 miles southwest of Quinlan and Ashby-Ramsey fields.

Amoco Production Co. spudded an exploratory test to Cretaceous Woodbine in Tyler County.

The 1 Jacoway Gas Unit, 11/2 miles southwest of Woodville, is more than a mile northwest of the 1985 Woodville field discovery well, which produces gas, condensate, and water from Woodbine, PI reported.

Meanwhile, Willow Creek Resources, Midland, Tex., spudded the 1 Lizzie, in Tyler County 4 miles east-southeast of Spurger and projected to 16,000 ft.

No production exists below 10,000 ft in a 5 mile radius, PI noted.

Southern Resource, Corpus Christi, is attempting to complete the 1 Vastar, almost 2 miles south-southeast of Highbaugh field, a Wilcox producing area.

This well site is 12 miles southwest of the Willow Creek location, PI reported.

West

Burlington Resources Oil & Gas Co. gauged its 11th horizontal Ellenburger gas well in Kelley field, Val Verde basin.

The 51EH McDonald, in Edwards County, flowed 811 Mcfd of gas with 2 b/d of water from open hole in dual laterals at 7,246-9,200 ft and 7,084-9,177 ft measured depth.

PI said horizontal wells in Kelley field produced nearly 6.66 bcf of gas, 336 bbl of condensate, and 41,739 bbl of water since 1994.

West Central

Spiller Operating Co., San Antonio, was drilling a rank wildcat in Mills County.

The 1 Foley, 20 miles southwest of Hamilton, is projected to 2,900 ft. It is near the Hamilton and Lampasas county lines, PI reported.

It is about 1 mile north of a 1995 Marble Falls gas completion at 1,879-92 ft that was never brought on production.

Utah

Rosewood Resources Inc., Dallas, staked a wildcat on the Hanging Rock Federal Unit, Uintah County, near where it earlier completed and shut-in a gas discovery.

The 6-2 Hanging Rock-I, in 6-12s-23e, is projected to 7,100 ft or Wasatch and Mesaverde, PI reported.

The location is 3 miles northwest of Rosewood's 10-13 Hanging Rock-I, in 10-12s-23e. It flowed 1.54 MMcfd of gas and 5 b/d of water from Mesaverde at 4,370-80 ft.

Rosewood's 11-8 Hanging Rock-Federal, in 11-12s-23e, flowed 692 Mcfd of gas, 2 b/d of condensate, and 20 b/d of water from Wasatch at 3,754-3,997 ft and 577 Mcfd of gas, 2 b/d of condensate, and 38 b/d of water from Mesaverde at 4,318-71 ft.
