Western Geophysical has acquired a 5,500-km seismic survey in the Makran basin off Pakistan. The nonexclusive, multiclient survey covers open acreage in deepwater blocks.

"Interest in offshore Pakistan has increased recently, with various oil and gas companies acquiring exploration licenses in this area during 1997," said Western Geophysical.

The Makran basin lies south of the Pasni South and Pasni East licenses and west of Indus-A and 2365-1 (see grid area above). Water depths in the area range from 880 m to 3,000 m.

Western Geophysical's 2D vessel, MV Western Wave (see photo inset) acquired the survey with a 5,100 m, 16-bit digital streamer, sleeve air guns, and Western's Omega onboard seismic processing system.

The processed data will be available during the second quarter of this year, says Western Geophysical.
