Tuscarora Gas Transmission Co. has asked for a permit to lay a $125 million pipeline to move Alberta gas to Reno, Nev., as cogeneration fuel.

Tuscarora is a partnership of TransCanada PipeLines Ltd., Calgary, and Sierra Pacific Resources Co., Reno.

Its application to the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeks approval to lay a 141 mile line with initial capacity of 111 MMcfd. Capacity could be at least doubled by adding compression.

The proposed line is to run from a connection with the Pacific Gas Transmission Co. system from Alberta to California.

The project will require more capacity on the PGT line and a line operated by Alberta Natural Gas Ltd., Calgary, through British Columbia to connect with the PGT system.

Tuscarora wants to complete its project by autumn 1995.

Paiute Pipeline Co. currently delivers gas to Reno. Tuscarora, which figures gas demand in the Reno area is rising at a rate of 3%/year, said it can deliver more competitive supplies.
