TOTAL STARTS UP BONGKOT GAS FIELD
Total and partners have brought on stream giant Bongkot natural gas field in the Gulf of Thailand off Thailand at a rate of 150 MMcfd.
Plans call for production to jump to 200 MMcfd in January 1994 and 250 MMcfd in January 1995. Reserves are estimated at 2 tcf. Total project cost to yearend is estimated at $500 million.
Development involved installation of three multiwell platforms, a production-processing platform, accommodation platform, and a floating storage unit for storing condensate.
Development, to be complete in early 1994, began in August 1992 and entails drilling 27 wells.
Bongkot gas is delivered via pipeline operated by state owned PTT Exploration and Production (Pttep) to the Bangkok and Khanom areas, intended mainly to feed Thai power plants. Total is operator with 30% interest, with other interests held by Pttep 40%, British Gas plc 20%, and Den norske stats oljeselskap AS 10%.
