Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (Adnoc) is poised to upgrade and expand onshore gas treating facilities at Habshan, United Arab Emirates.

A combine of Bechtel Corp., Houston, and Technip unit of Gaz de France, Paris, is to conduct Adnoc's project under a $1.3 billion lump sum, turnkey contract disclosed near the end of March.

Technical details have not been revealed. But new gas injection facilities, as well as gas treating, condensate removal, and sulfur recovery process units are to be installed. Scope of the project also covers:

  • A gas processing plant to be built adjacent to an existing two train processing plant and integrated into existing facilities to form a single multitrain gas processing complex.

  • A compressor station to be built for the Thamamma B reservoir about 5 km from Habshan.

  • Installation of six condensate storage tanks and associated transfer facilities at Adnoc's 120,000 b/cd Ruwais refinery, about 105 km north of Habshan and 185 km west of Abu Dhabi.

  • Construction of 245 km of 10-30 in. pipelines.

Work is to begin immediately with completion expected by Dec. 31, 1995. Eastern Bechtel Corp. will provide engineering, procurement, and construction services.

The Bechtel-Technip joint venture chose Consolidated Contractors International Co. SAL of Abu Dhabi as construction subcontractor on the project. Pritchard Corp., Manama, Bahrain, will be subcontractor to Technip for the project's sulfur recovery plant.
