TEXACO SETS COMPANY HORIZONTAL MARK
A unit of Texaco Inc. has set a company water depth record for horizontal holes with a development well in the Gulf of Mexico.
Texaco Exploration & Production Inc. and contractor Dual Drilling Co., Dallas, claimed the record with the A-15 well, drilled by Dual 25 rig from the Tick platform in 718 ft of water on Garden Banks Block 189.
Texaco and Dual completed a 476 ft horizontal section in A-15 at 6,210 ft subsea using a prepacked screen in a slotted liner.
William F. Wallace, vice-president of Texaco E&P's eastern region, said A-15 is one of the Tick project's best wells. A-15 flow rates have been more than 3,000 b/d of oil and 2.3 MMcfd of gas with 1,066 psi flowing tubing pressure through a '/64 in. choke.
Including A-15, 15 wells on the Tick platform are producing a combined 11,000 b/d of oil and 66.6 MMcfd of gas.
Texaco and Unocal Corp. each own 50% interest in the Tick project, which began commercial production in spring 1992.
