SAUDIS DISCLOSE WELL RESULTS IN NEW ONSHORE AREA

Saudi Aramco has detailed test rates for three wells related to its Medin oil, gas, and condensate discovery in Northwest Saudi Arabia (OGJ, Mar. 29, Newsletter). The field is the first discovery on the northern Red Sea coastal plain. Saudi Aramco plans further drilling and seismic surveys to further delineate extent of reserves.

The 1 Medin wildcat discovered the reservoir in November 1992 and flowed 45 MMcfd of sweet gas and 1,300 b/d of 39 condensate through a 1% in. choke with 1,100 psi wellhead pressure from tertiary Miocence limestone at 7,300-7,732 ft.

Delineation well 2 Medin, spudded Nov. 30, began production tests Jan. 14. It encountered the same reservoir 200 ft higher in the structure than 1 Medin. It tested 55 MMcfd of gas and 1,900 b/d of 58 condensate through a 1 3/4 in. choke with 1,200 psi wellhead pressure. The 3 Medin well, spudded Jan. 23, on Mar. 4 flowed 2,300 b/d of 39 gravity sweet crude oil and 19 MMcfd of sweet gas through a 1 in. choke with 1,315 psi wellhead pressure from an interval at 7,760-7,845 ft.
