PHILLIPS STUDIES OPTIONS FOR EKOFISK
Five alternatives for moving the oil and gas processing and transportation facilities in Ekofisk field in the Norwegian North Sea are under study by operator Phillips Petroleum Co. Norway.
This follows the lifting of the threat by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to shut down the field, providing Phillips meets NPD requirements for long term safety on the 2/4T concrete storage tank (OGJ, Nov. 23, 1992, Newsletter). Phillips said solutions under evaluation are:
- Moving the processing facilities currently on 2/4T to a new platform but keeping the transportation functions on the 2/4T tank platform.
- Moving both functions to a new platform.
- Moving both functions to two new platforms.
- Moving the gas transportation plant to the 2/4B and 2/4K platforms and processing and oil transportation to a new platform.
- Moving all 2/4T functions (processing and oil and gas transportation) to a new platform linked by a bridge to the 2/4K platform.
"At this point we do not have any cost estimates for any of these alternatives," a Phillips spokesman said. "NPD has given us a July 1, 1993, deadline to submit our final recommendation. Current plans would indicate the completion of the long term solution in 1997."
