SEVEN INDICTED IN TAIWAN SCANDAL

Taiwanese prosecutors have indicted seven executives in the Chinese Petroleum Corp. (CPC) wastewater treatment plant scandal involving alleged kickbacks (OGJ, June 7, Newsletter). Among those indicted are subcontractor Tang Eng Iron Works Corp. Pres. Andrew Yen and Simon Pielkenrood, an official of IPG, a Dutch oil services company. Among those indicted are subcontractor Tang Eng Iron Works Corp. Pres. Andrew Yen and Simon Pielkenrood, an official of IPG, a Dutch oil services company. Charges include improper conduct and profiteering in bidding and contracting and document forgery. Brown & Root International, main contractor on the $173.8 million project at CPC's Kaohsiung refinery, was cleared of any wrongdoing.
