ORYX TAPS DEEPWATER GULF GAS
Oryx Energy Co., Dallas, has claimed several world and regional deepwater records on its Mississippi Canyon 400 unit in the Gulf of Mexico.
Three Oryx subsea wells on the six tract unit in 1,350-2,100 ft of water about 30 miles off Louisiana are producing 60 MMcfd of gas, making it Oryx's largest U.S. gas field. Gas moves more than 7 miles through flexible subsea flow lines to a platform on West Delta Block 152.
With fast track development, Oryx achieved production on the Mississippi Canyon 400 unit last summer, more than 1 year ahead of preliminary expectations (OGJ, Sept. 27, p. 20).
Information compiled by Subsea Data Services, Wimberley, Tex., shows Oryx's 1 Mississippi Canyon Block 445 well in 2,088 ft of water set world water depth records for deepest water producing subsea gas well and deepest water and longest all flexible, gas well flow line. The well is the deepest water producing subsea well in the gulf. Another well in the unit, 2 Mississippi Canyon Block 401 in 1,696 ft of water, is the gulf's second deepest water producing well.
