ENSERCH STARTS GULF GAS/CONDENSATE FLOW
Enserch Corp. has started production from a subsea template as part of a deepwater field development project on Mississippi Canyon Block 441 in the Gulf of Mexico.
About 40 MMcfd of gas is flowing from three wells in 1,410-1,520 ft of water about 55 miles south of New Orleans. Three more wells are to be completed in the field and begin producing through a second template by June, jumping production to more than 70 MMcfd and 600 b/d of condensate.
Current production moves as far as 6 miles through subsea flow lines to a fixed platform in 380 ft of water on adjacent Ewing Bank Block 482. The site of the field in a shipping fairway prevented installation of surface production facilities over the wells.
Integrated oil and gas flow line and control umbilical bundles needed to control the subsea wells and transport product were assembled on Matagorda Island near Bay City, Tex., and bottom towed almost 500 miles to the deepwater development site. Enserch used stackable drilling and production templates to cut development time.
Enserch exploration and production unit Enserch Exploration Partners Ltd. is operator of the project with a 37.5% interest in the field. Its partners are Petrofina Delaware Inc. 33.7% interest and ENI Group 28.8%.
The companies also share interests in leases on Ewing Bank 482 and Mississippi Canyon Block 485 just south of Mississippi Canyon 441.
