Partners in Colombia's Santiago de las Atalayas and Tauramena association contract areas have filed for a declaration of commerciality for Cusiana and Cupiagua fields.

Approval by state owned Empresa Colombiana de Petroleos (Ecopetrol) of the application from operator BP Exploration Co. (Colombia) Ltd. and partners is expected within 60 days (OGJ, May 10, p. 30).

BP and Total Exploratie en Produktie Mij. BY each own a 38% interest in the two blocks and Triton Colombia Inc. 24%. Ecopetrol has an option to acquire a 50% interest in the fields upon approval of commerciality.

Meantime, Triton said the 1 Cupiagua wildcat on Santiago de las Atalayas block logged hydrocarbons in Eocene Mirador, Barco, and Guadalupe. Combined flow of 1 Cupiagua tests was 7,215 b/d of 42-46 gravity oil and 29.2 MMcfd of gas from intervals between 12,512 and 14,552 ft.

In addition, Triton released these Cusiana field results from tests of the 3 Cusiana and 2 Buenos Aires appraisal wells in the Santiago de las Atalayas and Tauramena areas, respectively:

  • 3 Cusiana flowed a combined 2,620 b/d of 34-35 gravity oil and 3 MMcfd of gas through a 1/2 in. choke with 1,710 psi flowing tubing pressure from three Mirador intervals at 15,124336 ft.

  • 2 Buenos Aires flowed 3,590 b/d of 34-35 gravity oil and 4.4 MMcfd of gas through a 5/s in. choke with 1,411 psi flowing tubing pressure from Mirador at 15,004-040 ft.

Triton said 1 Cupiagua has been suspended and the rig released to a site 4 km northeast to drill the 3 Cupiagua appraisal well. Also suspended are 1 Cusiana, 2A Cusiana, 3 Cusiana, and 2 Buenos Aires.

Partners logged these gauges on tests of 1 Cupiagua:

  • Mirador flowed a combined 4,400 b/d of 44-46 gravity oil and 18 MMcfd of gas through a 5/8 in. choke with 1,640-1,875 psi flowing tubing pressure from two intervals at 12,512-888 ft.

  • Guadalupe and Barco flowed a combined 2,200 b/d of 43 gravity oil and 8.7 MMcfd of gas through a 5/8 in. choke with 1,720 psi flowing tubing pressure from two intervals at 13,53614,552 ft.

  • Guadalupe flowed 615 b/d of 42 gravity oil and 2.5 MMcfd of gas through a 3/s in. choke with 410 psi flowing tubing pressure from an interval at 14,310-552 ft.

Cupiagua field is on the Santiago de las Atalayas block 15 km north of Cusiana field. Cusiana overlaps the boundary separating Santiago de las Atalayas and Tauramena areas in the Llanos foothills about 160 km north of Bogota.
